Salisbury Steak With Gravy

Salisbury Steak With Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, And Corn

Making Salisbury steak with gravy is so simple to make at home. A few ingredients and you have a delicious dinner in under 30 minutes. I love making this a few times a month and sometimes we have this for Sunday dinner.

Let’s get started.

INGREDIENTS: SALISBURY STEAK

1 to 2 lbs of ground beef
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1 tbsp ketchup or crushed tomatoes
2 tsp dry or prepared mustard
4 to 5 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp beef granules
salt and pepper to taste
2 tsp Italian seasoning
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp olive oil

GRAVY:

1 onion – sliced
2 cups beef broth
1 tbsp ketchup or crushed tomatoes
2 to 3 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp cornstarch
salt and pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS:

  1. In a bowl combine the bread crumbs, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, beef granules, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Mix well. (you can add 1 egg if you want the meat to have more moisture)
  2. Add the meat and mix well. I like using a fork so it doesn’t smush the meat too much.
  3. Shape into patties that are slightly oblong and place on a plate.
  4. In a large skillet over medium-low heat add the oil and butter. Let melt.
  5. Add the patties and cook until cooked through. About 4 to 5 minutes on each side. Once cooked through, remove to a plate and remove most of the excess grease.
  6. Add the onions to the pan and cook until tender and translucent. Mix the remaining ingredients in with the beef broth and mix well.
  7. Add the broth mixture to the pan and whisk until smooth and thickened. This should take about 5 minutes or so.
  8. Return the patties to the gravy and cover with a lid. Turn the heat to low and cook for about 10 minutes. Remove the lid and adjust the seasoning.
  9. Serve as desired.

  1. That looks yummy! In the Philippines, we often serve that with brown gravy and mushrooms — but the darker, tomato-based sauce you used does remind me of how the Japanese would typically prepare theirs.
