Firecracker Salmon

We love Asian food and we love salmon so, I thought it would be quite fitting to come up with our own recipe for firecracker salmon and I am so glad that I did. This recipe is our spin on the asian classic “firecracker salmon” and it is absolutely delicious. It is slightly spicy, slightly sweet and just perfect on flavor. It is so easy to make and the addition of the 5 spice just gives it an added boost of flavor. So if you are like us and love salmon and asian food then this recipe is where it is… So let’s get right into it….

Firecracker Salmon

INGREDIENTS:

4 pieces of salmon ( skin on)
Avocado oil
salt and pepper to taste
3 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp garlic chili sauce
2 tbsp sugar
4 cloves garlic – minced
1/2 tsp sesame oil
2 green onions – sliced
1/4 tsp Chinese 5 spice powder
1 tsp dark soy sauce

DIRECTIONS:

  1. In a bowl combine the soy sauce, chili sauce, sugar, garlic, green onion, sesame oil, 5 spice, and the dark soy sauce. Mix until the sugar is dissolved. Set aside.
  2. In a large skillet over med high heat add about 2 to 3 tbsp of avocado oil to the pan. Let it heat up. Season the salmon with salt and pepper to taste and carefully lay the salmon in the pan. Let it sear 3 to 4 minutes per side or depending on the thickness of the salmon. Remove the fully cooked salmon from the pan and set aside.
  3. remove the remaining oil from the pan using a paper towel.
  4. Add the sauce to the pan. It will bubble up so be careful. Using a spoon or spatula stir the sauce until thickened. This should take about 1 to 2 minutes.
  5. Add the salmon back to the pan carefully flipping or basting the salmon with the sauce. Remove from heat and place the salmon on a serving dish and top with remaining sauce. You can top with sesame seeds at this point if you would like.

This dish is absolutely delicious and we can not wait until you give it a try. We pair this with white jasmine rice and steamed veggies. You can pair this however you like. ENJOY!
