Ginger….. I love the spiciness of ginger. You can add it to drinks, savory and sweet foods. You can cook and bake with it. It has such a versatile purpose. Not only does it taste good and goes well with a lot of dishes, It also has medicinal purposes.
Ginger helps aid in digestive issues such as IBS and bloating. It helps with appitite suppressant and helps aid in weight loss. It helps with morning sickness and helps with inflammation. These are just a few of the benefits of ginger. It is a very good herb/spice to add to your everyday routine.
Turmeric also helps aid in weight loss and is an anti-inflammatory spice as well. Turmeric also helps boost the antioxidant capacity of the body. Studies have shown that it could help with depression as well.
These are not all of the benefits of ginger and turmeric have to offer. There are many, many more nutrition and health benefits to them. With this drink, you get the nutritional benefits of both and makes a great detox drink for your body.
1/2 inch piece of ginger, Grated
1/2 tsp turmeric
1 slice of lemon
pinch of black pepper
sweetener of choice (optional)
1 cup of water
- In a saucepan bring 1 cup of water to a boil.
- In the meantime grate the ginger and add to a mug. Add the turmeric, lemon slice, pepper and, if using, the sweetener. Muddle together just enough to release the juices from the ginger and lemon.
- When the water is boiling, Pour over the ginger and lemon mix and cover with a lid or cloth and let the tea steep for about 10 to 12 minutes. This ensures all of the flavors have come out of the ginger, lemon, and turmeric so you get the flavor and benefits of them all. The pepper helps your body absorb the turmeric. You can not taste the pepper as the ginger cuts the pepper flavor down. You don’t need much pepper but just a tiny bit.
When the 10 minutes are up you can strain the liquid or drink as is. I drink the tea as is so I can chew on the ginger as well.
You can also make this into a shot if you don’t want to sip a tea. You can add less water and lemon juice instead of the sliced lemon and blend in a blender until smooth and do a ginger shot. Same benefits just less water, Just don’t boil the water. I’d prefer using filtered water for this.
However, you prefer it works the same.
