The taste of dal is very unique and exquisite. You can make dal in all sorts of ways. This is a very easy recipe that is big on flavor and so delicious. It is a big hit every time I make it.
Here is what you will need:
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups red lentils
6 cups water or vegetable broth
1 red bell pepper ( seeded and chopped)
1 red onion ( diced)
1 tsp ginger
3 cloves of garlic (minced)
juice of 1/2 lemon
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp curry powder
1 tsp cumin
1/4 tsp cinnamon
pinch of cayenne powder
2 tomatoes ( diced)
DIRECTIONS:
- In a large pot over medium heat add about 1 tbsp water along with the onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook until tender, Adding a little water if needed.
- Add the ginger, turmeric, curry powder, cumin, and cinnamon. Cook for about 1 minute while stirring.
- Add the red lentils, diced tomatoes, lemon juice and water. Stir until combined. Bring the mixture to a boil and reduce heat to low and cover with a lid.
- Simmer for about 30 minutes or until the lentils are tender and the mixture is thickened.
- Serve over brown rice.
You are sure to love this dish. It is so filling and the flavors are outstanding.
