The Softest White Sandwich Bread

I have been working on this recipe for a while now. We love this sandwich bread recipe. I have used it for not only sandwich bread but also burger buns, hotdog buns, slider buns, and stuffed burgers. What?! Yep. It is that good and that versatile.

This recipe is so good. You can add so many things to add extra flavor to this, like herbs to add to the recipe, or you can sprinkle in some sunflower seeds. You can brush the top with an egg wash and sprinkle over some oats or cheddar cheese. I love changing this recipe up depending on what I am in the mood for when I make it. So let me share this recipe with you.

INGREDIENTS:

3 1/2 C. Flour
1 1/4 C. Warm Water
3 Tbsp. Honey
2 1/2 Tsp. Yeast
2 Tsp. Salt
1/4 C. Avocado Oil

DIRECTIONS:

  1. In a bowl, combine the warm water, honey, and yeast. Stir to combine and set to the side for about 5 minutes to activate.
  2. In a stand mixer or bowl, combine the flour and salt. Mix well.
  3. When the yeast has activated and turned foamy, add it to the flour as well as the avocado oil. Turn the mixer on low and mix until just combined. Turn the mixer on medium and let knead until a dough ball forms and is no longer sticky when you touch it. Do not add any more flour. This should take about 7 to 10 minutes.
  4. Remove and add the dough to a lightly greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap or a tea towel and let rise for one hour or until doubled in size. If you are using a bread machine, add the flour and salt to the base and then the liquid. Turn the bread machine on “leaving dough”. Let the machine do the work.
  5. When the dough has done its first rise, you can remove it from the bowl and shape it into a loaf. Place the dough out on the counter and use your fingertips to spread the dough into a rectangle shape. Starting at the short end, roll the dough up like you would a cinnamon roll. Tuck the ends under and pinch the seam together. Place the dough into a greased loaf pan. Cover and place in a warm place to rise again for 30 to 45 minutes or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F* and place the rack in the center of the oven.
  7. Place the loaf in the oven and bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the oven and let rest in the pan for 5 minutes. Brush the top with butter because butter is good and it keeps the crust nice and soft. Remove from the pan and let cool completely on a wire rack before slicing. Store any leftovers in a bread bag or ziploc bag on the counter or in the fridge.
  • Add-Ins: Herbs. Any mix will be great, but I love rosemary and thyme. Nuts or seeds are awesome in here. I love adding sunflower seeds and flax seeds. You can add sundried tomatoes and roasted garlic for a lovely flavor.
  • You can add Oats to the top as well as flaky salt or cheddar cheese for a nice crust.
  • You can shape this bread dough into any shape you want. I love using this for burger buns, hot dog buns, slider buns, breadsticks, or rolls. It makes great sandwich bread, and I love adding honey butter to a slice for breakfast sometimes. The sky is the limit on what you can do with this soft and fluffy dough.
  • This bread is husband and daughter approved. They are super picky about their breads. lol. I often omit 1/2 cup of flour and add in 1/2 cup of wheat flour or einkorn flour. It is still soft and delicious.
