I love Asian, Chinese, South Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese and Mongolian dishes. There is something about these dishes that are simply delicious. There are so many vegan and vegetarian dishes that they have created over centuries of cooking. They have simple ingredients and a lot of flavor in every dish. In this blog post, I will be sharing with you one of my simple and yet very delicious tofu recipes.
When I was a nonplant based eater a while back, I loved teriyaki chicken. This is my take on the dish using tofu and very few ingredients.
INGREDIENTS:
1 block firm tofu
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp grated ginger
1/2 tsp white pepper
2 tsp tapioca starch or you can use cornstarch ( both work well)
DIRECTIONS:
- Remove the tofu from the package and wrap in a kitchen towel. place on a baking sheet and place a baking sheet on top. Place a heavy item on top of the baking sheet to press the extra water from the tofu. Let the tofu sit for about 20 minutes. After 20 minutes remove from the cloth and cut in half and that half into 1/2 inch thick slices. Cut those slices into cubes.
- In a large bowl combine all of the remaining ingredients and whisk together to combine. Place the tofu cubes into the bowl and toss to coat evenly. Let the tofu marinate for about 20 minutes.
- In the meantime, heat up a large skillet and add the tofu cubes. Let the tofu brown on all sides. This takes about 2 minutes per side. When the tofu cubes are browned on all sides add in the sauce. Cook until the tofu is coated and the sauce is thickened.
- Remove from the heat.
I like to serve this dish with rice and a side of sauteed vegetables and bok choy.

Hello Everyone!
Thank you so much for stopping by. Let me tell you a little bit about me. I am a mom of two, a stepmom of 1, two wild and silly pups, and I have the best husband in the world. I also have a love of cooking and baking. I am always in the kitchen finding new recipes to try, recreating old family recipes, and reminiscing about the old ways. I am vintage at heart and love all things old and cast iron. I love spending time with the family and pups and just going where life takes us.
I created my blog a few years ago with my youtube channel because I thought that If I shared a recipe, then people just might like to see just how the recipe is put together. I share all of my family recipes along with today's recipes. Whether it is old-fashioned recipes, sourdough, einkorn, desserts, sheet pan meals, or even crockpot meals, they are all absolutely delicious.
I spend hours, if not days, creating and dabbling with recipes to make sure they are the best for you and your family. All of my recipes are family tested and family-approved before they are ever posted to my blog or youtube channel.
Every now and again I will share some behind-the-scenes fun and chaos of our creations and family adventures. I hope you all stick around and join us here at The Southern Rustic and see what we cook up in my kitchen. You can find all of my social media information in the Contact/Donate OR the Social Media Accounts tab on my home page. There I have listed my Instagram pages, YouTube channel, Email, and other information so you can easily find everything in one place.
I hope that you all have a wonderful, wonderful day and I will see you soon.
Sam
