I created this site to share with you all of our delicious recipes. I have compiled many family recipes, modern recipes, and so much more. My love for cooking and baking inspired me to start my own blog and my own youtube channel so I can share with you all things cooking and baking.
This is one of my favorite side dishes. I love this dish. It is so easy to make and so dang good. A mixy mix here and put it in a pan…. cover it and bake…. yea it is that simple. So let’s get into this bad boy!
Potatoes Au Gratin
INGREDIENTS:
4 tbsp melted butter 4 large potatoes- sliced 1/4 inch thick 1 1/4 cup milk 3 tbsp flour 2 cloves garlic – minced 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp pepper 1/4 tsp nutmeg 3 green onions – sliced 1 cup cheddar cheese – shredded
DIRECTIONS:
Slice your potatoes and place in a bowl and cover with cool water. Set aside. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
Let your potatoes soak for about 10 minutes. Drain. Spray or brush oil onto a 8×8 in pan. Set aside.
In a bowl combine the milk, flour, garlic, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and green onions. Mix well to combine. Set aside.
In your pan place a single layer of potatoes in the bottom and ladle on a small amount of the milk mixture. Repeat the process until the potatoes are gone and the end with the milk mixture on top.
Pour over your melted butter on the top and sprinkle with the cheese. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and place back in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
I often add rosemary to this dish to bump up the flavor as well as thyme. If you want a more liquid-y sauce bump up the milk to 2 cups. I do not like mine to to liquid-y per say….. but just the right amount. This side dish is so good and goes with anything. I hope you enjoy it!
Hello Everyone!
Thank you so much for stopping by. Let me tell you a little bit about me. I am a mom of two, a stepmom of 1, two wild and silly pups, and I have the best husband in the world. I also have a love of cooking and baking. I am always in the kitchen finding new recipes to try, recreating old family recipes, and reminiscing about the old ways. I am vintage at heart and love all things old and cast iron. I love spending time with the family and pups and just going where life takes us.
I created my blog a few years ago with my youtube channel because I thought that If I shared a recipe, then people just might like to see just how the recipe is put together. I share all of my family recipes along with today's recipes. Whether it is old-fashioned recipes, sourdough, einkorn, desserts, sheet pan meals, or even crockpot meals, they are all absolutely delicious.
I spend hours, if not days, creating and dabbling with recipes to make sure they are the best for you and your family. All of my recipes are family tested and family-approved before they are ever posted to my blog or youtube channel.
Every now and again I will share some behind-the-scenes fun and chaos of our creations and family adventures. I hope you all stick around and join us here at The Southern Rustic and see what we cook up in my kitchen. You can find all of my social media information in the Contact/Donate OR the Social Media Accounts tab on my home page. There I have listed my Instagram pages, YouTube channel, Email, and other information so you can easily find everything in one place.
I hope that you all have a wonderful, wonderful day and I will see you soon.
Sam
