Cherry Pie Smoothie

Are you ready for another delicious smoothie? I know I am always ready for a good smoothie. I have at least 1 smoothie a day. I typically break my fast with a smoothie or have one for lunch. I am always making different styles of smoothies because I usually do not like to have the same smoothie every day. It keeps my body from getting too used to one flavor and plus it is just good to switch things up. Having the same smoothie day after day after day gets a bit boring in my opinion. Adding different combinations of fruits, milk, nut or seed butter, protein sources, and fibers keeps me from getting too used to it.

So if you are a smoothie person then you will love any of my smoothie recipes. I used to despise smoothies. I always thought they just didn’t do anything for me, I got so hungry after drinking them, they never filled me up or kept me full, they always tasted too sweet or just plain nasty. I would never find a good smoothie recipe that actually tasted good until I learned to make them correctly with protein, fat, and fiber. Now, my smoothies taste delicious and I love sharing them with people. I am now a smoothie girl… Never thought I’d hear myself say that but it is true. I now love smoothies. Even when I go out and want a smoothie I can now order them to my likeness and they actually taste even better. Imagine that.

Anyway, let’s get into this… let’s go.

INGREDIENTS:

10 oz of Milk ( you can use almond, coconut milk (all unsweetened) or water ( I use 2 oz of whole milk with 8oz water)
1/2 Serving/1 Scoop ( 17g) Vanilla protein powder
1/2 c. ( 123g) Greek yogurt or Skyr ( you can also use kefir)
1/2 c. (67g) Unsweetened frozen cherries
1/2 tsp. (2 g) Vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. (1g) Almond extract
1 tbsp. (12g) Peanut butter (2 tbsp (24g) if you are extra hungry)
pinch of salt ( I use either Celtic or Himalayan pink salt)
1 tbsp. (6g) Hemp or Chia seeds ( I love chia seeds in this but see note for more info)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Add all of the ingredients into a blender making sure to add the hemp or chia seeds in last. This makes sure they do not sink to the bottom of the blender and they get incorporated into the smoothie.
  2. Blend until everything is nice and smooth. If you have a smoothie button on your blender you can use that or blend on low for 10 seconds and then on high until everything is smooth. Pour into your serving cup and enjoy. All of my smoothie recipes make 1 serving.

  • If you can not have chia seeds you can add hemp seeds, whole or ground flax seeds, or edible basil seeds. All work well in all of my recipes.
  • You can swap out the peanut butter for any other nut or seed butter that you like or prefer. They all work well in all of my recipes. I have tried all variations of seeds and nut or seed butter in all of my recipes. Some may alter the flavor depending on which nut or seed butter you use but they are all very delicious.
  • If you prefer a sweet flavor to your smoothie, although this is zero added sugar and slightly sweet, you can add in 1/4 to 1/2 of a frozen banana. It will give the smoothie a slightly thicker consistency and slightly sweet banana flavor. But it is really good. So add it or don’t add it depending on what flavor and sweetness you are going for on that day.
  • Trust me when I tell you my smoothie recipes go through rigorous testing with multiple different seeds, nuts, nut or seed butter, milk, and yogurts. I test them all before I even think about posting that recipe to my blog. I can also say that those variations work well and I love them all.
  • All of my smoothies are zero added sugar unless otherwise stated in the recipe and they are all full of protein, healthy fats, and fiber. So rest assured that you will get all of the nutrients and good flavor from all of my smoothie recipes. They are also family approved so your family will enjoy them as well.
  • These smoothie recipes, to me, are considered a meal replacement. I typically break my fast with a smoothie unless I just want something a bit more hearty to break my fast with. This usually will be on a weekend morning when I am less busy.
