This is a recipe that my mom would make at least once every two weeks. It was easy to make and it was filling. I had all sorts of after-school activities growing up. I had horseback riding, chores, cheerleading, and softball. Not all on the same day but some days it sure did feel like it. I was just a very active child and teen. I loved and still love being active.
This recipe is quick to make and so good. It is kind of reminiscent of sloppy joes but on a whole different level. My kids loved it and I am sure your children will too. So, let me share with you how to make it.
INGREDIENTS:
Sub buns ( top cut)
1 Lb. Ground beef
1/2 Onion – diced
1/2 Bell Pepper – Diced
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
Salt and pepper – to taste
1 Can of Cream Of Mushroom Soup
1 to 2 C. Grated Cheese – Mozzarella or Cheddar
1/4 C. Milk
DIRECTIONS:
- Preheat the oven to 350*. Line a sheet tray with parchment paper. Set aside.
- If your sub buns are not cut on the top you will need to cut them. Just take a pairing knife and cut around the top to make a “boat shape”. Leave some of the bread around the sides so it will help hold its shape. Set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium-low heat add the ground beef, onion, bell pepper, salt, and pepper. Break apart with a spoon and cook until the ground beef is cooked through and the onion and bell peppers are tender.
- Add the Worcestershire sauce, milk, and the cream of mushroom soup. Stir to combine well. Turn the heat to low and cook, stirring often, for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Spoon the mixture into the sub-buns evenly. Gently press the mixture down to slightly pack it into the buns to help keep the mixture in the buns.
- Sprinkle over the cheese evenly on the top. Place on the prepared sheet tray. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
- You can serve these however you want. I like to serve these with chips but you can do french fries as well.
- These will go great as a “Sloppy Joe” sort of sandwich. You can place the mixture onto a burger bun and serve it that way also.
- I used homemade sub suns in the featured photo but any will do.

My grandchildren will love it!
