Oven-Baked Apple Pie BBQ Ribs

Sometimes we get in a rut with holiday dinners or dinners in general. These delicious BBQ Ribs are so easy and so full of flavor that you are going to knock it out of the park with these. It definitely kicks up your dinner table a notch or two. All of the flavors pair so well with the ribs and any side dish you add to your dinner plate. Not only is the flavor on point the ribs are fall of the bone tender.

Now with any rib recipe, you can certainly make these on the outside BBQ grill if you so desire. I find it way too cold here to do much grilling during the colder months so… to the oven they go. lol. I do the same method on the grill as I do for the oven. Just adjust your coals accordingly to the temp you want. There are many many videos and posts about how to BBQ if you would like to check out the internet for that information if you are new to grilling. If you are well established on the grill you do you and have fun!

Let’s get to cooking!

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 C. Brown Sugar
2 Tbsp. Sugar ( I use raw cane)
1 1/2 Tbsp. Apple Pie Spice
2 Tsp. Chili Powder
2 Tsp. Kosher Salt
1/2 Tsp. Pepper
1/2 Tsp. Paprika ( regular or smoked- depending on the flavor profile you are going for)
1/8 Tsp. Garlic Powder
1/4 – 1/2 Tsp. Cayenne Pepper ( to your heat tolerance)
1 Rack of Ribs ( I use baby back because I always have them on hand- use what you like)
1 – 1 1/2 C. Sweet or spicy style BBQ sauce ( use your favorite)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Preheat the oven to 325*. Place the oven rack on the center slot of the oven. Place a few layers of foil on a large sheet tray.
  2. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs. Use a knife to cut a slit in the membrane on the backside of the ribs. Use a paper towel to get a grip on the membrane and pull. It should come right off. ( you can watch videos on how to do this if you do not know how to) You can discard this. You are not using it.
  3. Pat the ribs dry with paper towels and place them meat side up on the prepared sheet tray.
  4. Brush or spray the ribs with a bit of neutral oil on both sides. Be sure to keep the meat side of the ribs facing up at this point.
  5. To a bowl Add the brown sugar, sugar, apple pie spice, chili powder, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.
  6. Sprinkle half of the spice mixture over the meaty portion of the ribs and pat into the meat. Do not rub the spices into the meat. Just pat it on there. Flip the meat over add the remaining spice mixture and pat it into the meat/ribs.
  7. Keep the ribs portion facing up and cover tightly with the foil on the pan.
  8. Bake for 1 hour and 45 minutes.
  9. Remove and remove the foil from the ribs as best as you can. I typically just tuck the foil beside the ribs and leave it on the tray.
  10. Brush the top side of the ribs with the BBQ sauce as evenly as you can. Raise the temp of the oven to 450* and bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove and flip the ribs over carefully and brush with more BBQ sauce. Bake for another 8 to 10 minutes to set the sauce to the ribs. Remove and let stand for 5 to 10 minutes.
  11. At this point, you can cut the rubs into 1, 2, or 3 bone sections.
  • Serve these tasty ribs however you like.
