This is my go to focaccia dough. It is super easy to make and it tastes amazing. It is slightly different than my pizza dough. With this dough you can add any type of herb or garlic to the dough to make it taste even better. You can make this in a stand mixer ( like I often do) or you can do it by hand if you prefer.
Let’s get started.
2 tsp yeast
1 cup warm water (about 110 to 112*)
2 tbsp sugar
4 cups flour
1 tsp fine salt
1/4 cup olive oil
- In a bowl combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and set aside to proof. This should take about 5 to 10 minutes.
- In a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook combine the flour and salt. Stir to combine well.
- Turn the mixer on low and slowly add in the olive oil and yeast mixture. Keep the speed on low for about 5 minutes. Turn the mixer to medium speed and let the dough knead for about 4 to 6 minutes or until the dough pulls away from the sides.
- Turn the mixer off and remove the dough to a well oiled bowl. Toss the dough to coat the dough completely with the oil. Cover with plastic or a tea towel and set in a warm draft free area for 1 to 2 hours or until doubled in sized. You are now ready to roll out as desired. Place on a floured surface and flour your rolling pin and roll out as desired.
- If the dough is to dry, add in 1 tbsp of warm water at a time until the dough comes together.
- If the dough is to sticky, add in 1 tbsp of flour at a time until the dough comes together.
- You don’t want the dough to dry or sticky. Slightly sticky is ok. It should be just sticky enough but doesn’t stick to your hands if touched.
- You can add in garlic or herbs to flavor the dough even more. Just add the ingredients to the dry mixture and follow the directions.
- You can cut the dough in half if you need to. You can also cut the recipe in half as well.
